RATES
Square Inch Price
Edge-to-edge designs: I charge $0.0275 per square inch for all designs. If you prefer denser quilting, there may be an increase in price.
Custom quilting: Custom quilting starts at $0.05 per square inch and is dependent on the type of quilting. Skilled designs such as pebbles, feathers, and/or those requiring the use of rulers will cost more per square inch. Custom quilting includes a personal consultation for the final design and pricing. If you have a specific budget, please let me know and we can create a design within your budget.
My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.
60" x 80" Quilt Top
60 x 80 = 4,800 sq. in.
4,800 x $0.0275 = $132
Batting
Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.
I charge for batting by the linear inch from queen rolls (93" or 96" long) of batting except in the case of special orders. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin) and charge per inch. Extra batting can be returned to you for use in other projects or I donate extra batting to use in charity quilts.
I keep two types of batting in stock. You may also provide your own batting, or if you are looking for something special, I can source it for you. If you provide your own batting, please note that I no longer accept Hobbs.
-
Pellon 80 Cotton/20 Poly blend: $0.40 per linear inch
-
Quilters Dream Bamboo: $0.43 per linear inch
For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" of the batting of your choice. 65" x $0.40/in = $26.00
Piecing Backing
If you need help with piecing your quilt backing, I charge $30 per backing. This includes cutting, piecing, squaring, and pressing your quilt backing. Please provide the yardage needed for your quilt top, including an extra 5" for all sides.
Binding
I offer binding services in two options:
Making your binding: I charge $0.12 per linear inch to create binding. You provide the yardage needed for your quilt size and I will cut, piece, and iron your binding so it's ready to be stitched to your quilt top.
Machine attaching binding to one side of your quilt: I charge $0.18 per linear inch to make your binding as described above, square up your quilt, and then machine attach the binding to the top of your quilt so it's ready for hand stitching.
Machine attaching binding to both sides of your quilt: I charge $0.23 per linear inch to make your binding as described above, square up your quilt, and then machine attach the binding to both sides of your quilt. This option allows you to receive a fully finished quilt back!
For example, a 60" x 80" quilt is 280 linear inches. 280" x $0.12 = $33.60 or 280" x $0.18 = $50.40 or 280" x $0.23 = $64.40
Thread
I use Glide (#40 weight) on the quilt top. I use a thinner Glide (#60 weight) thread for the backing. The cost of thread is included in the per square inch price for quilting.
My personal preference is to match the top thread color with the overall tone and colors of the quilt top so it blends with your piecing. The backing thread will be a neutral color that similarly matches. However, this is your quilt! Please let me know if you have a specific color in mind.
Shipping
Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in Missouri, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I recommend sending your materials enclosed in a plastic sack or bag to protect against moisture and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly. I also recommend getting a tracking number for your package and additional insurance (if needed) to protect your hard work.
Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical) when payment is received. Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to purchase any additional insurance on your behalf.
Payment
After your project is complete, I will email you an invoice with payment options. As mentioned above, batting is not included in the square inch price and I am required by the State of Missouri to collect sales tax on the purchase of batting. I really do appreciate timely payments as that enables me to mail your project(s) back to you right away.
